Gluten Free in Denmark

December23

Had a week holiday down south in the lovely town of Denmark, WA. We stayed at the Denmark River Mouth Caravan Park and had a relaxing time with some kayaking, bike riding and snorkelling. Had lunch a couple of times at the Bibblumun Cafe that does very nice coffee with the Five Senses blend. They also do a range of gluten free offerings including a polenta slice.

We visited The Toffee Factory and lots of the products including range of toffees are gluten free. They also make Elephant Rocks cider which is also gluten free. Called in to Ducketts Mill Wines and discovered Denmark Farmhouse that had great range of cheeses and also some gluten free fudge.

Hot Choc Cuddle Cup!

By far our favourite place, we visited twice, was Denmark Chocolate Company that had a range of gluten free ganache filled dark chocolates and also offered divine real hot chocolates. Kyle loved whisking in and melting his dark chocolate in the frothed milk in the gorgeous red ‘cuddle cup”. Denmark Tavern were able to offer gluten free main meals and I had the Amelia Park lamb which was very tender and tasty.

Dinner @ Greenhouse

The Division gals at Greenhouse

Chocolate Parfait with Pink Bubbles

Had dinner with the Division girls after Conference at Greenhouse in Perth. Wanted to check out this trendy restaurant that recycles and uses good quality produce. The tapas style evening eats are great to to share and most are or can be gluten free and staff were helpful. Could have been even better if had a gluten free bread or pizza base option as I was left a little hungry. The tapas is all imaginatively presented on recycled materials. The dessert I had was a very yummy chocolate parfait with pink bubbles! Other desserts looked delicious with apple tarts, rice pudding and blood orange trifles. Check out the Greenhouse website.

40th Lunch @ Old Coast Road Brewery

October30

Had a great time at my 40th birthday lunch at the Old Coast Road Brewery at Myalup. They don’t do GF beer but have great wine and good food, I had a couple of gluten free options including grilled steak with jacket potato and salad. Aubrey ordered me some yummy gluten free chocolate cupcakes the same as we had at our wedding in February from Cupcake Cottage.

Nicola’s 40th Dinner at Nicola’s!

October21

Today is my 40th birthday and Aubrey, Kyle and I went for dinner at Nicola’s. I had Involtini di Pollo – free range chicken breast filled with sundried tomato, roast capsicum and mozarella cheese with parmesan polenta and mixed forest mushroom sauce. The Insalata gorgonzola salad with sweet glazed pear was delicious. For dessert I had the La banana ed il semifreddo di rum scuro – banana and dark rum semifreddo complete with birthday decorations. The staff were very helpful with the gluten free options on the menu.

Orange & Almond Cake @ Cafe 140

October16

Can highly recommend the gluten free Orange & Almond cake at Cafe 140 opposite the post office in Bunbury. Yes this cake is in a lot of cafe’s as the gluten free option but this is well worth it and served with lovely cream and orange sauce. The Five Senses coffee is also great.

Simply Thai

July9

Was very pleased to discover Simply Thai that can modify most dishes to be gluten free with tamari instead of soy sauce and rice noodles. We had Pad Thai, Mussaman and steamed rice. Very tasty and they do take away and a lunch menu.

Jus Burgers

June26

Made a spur of the moment trip to Perth today to go to the opening day of the Perth Apple store and visit the Crumpler store to get a new bag to fit my iPad. Couldn’t make a trip to Perth without a visit to Jus Burgers in Leederville. They make the best burgers and even better can make them gluten free. The burgers, most sauces and the hand cut chips are gluten free. Today my burger was not the best one had there as the Bodhi Bakery buns they use can tend to fall apart but still tasted delicious. The vibe is also very relaxed and funky.

Coffee & Cake @ Fez

June12

Took my iPad for coffee and cake at Fez. Caf-Fez is my favourite cafe because of the excellent Yahava coffee and Bannister Downs milk. They also have a good gluten free selection including cakes and bread. Today we also had GF nachos with chicken which were very yummy weekend treat.

The Singing Chef goes French

June11

It is Friday night and I don’t want to cook but sometimes going out for dinner gluten free can just be all too difficult! Not at The Singing Chef where most things on the theme menus are gluten free or easily adapted to be gluten free. June is French theme and on a chilly evening the food was warm and satisfying.

I started with the Soupe de Poisson, a robust fish soup with tomato and garlic rouille. For mains I chose the Beef Bourgoigon, a tender braised beef and merlot with parisienne potato and carrots. Aubrey had the Filet de Poisson avec Epinard Beurre Rouge, a tender Barramundi fillet wrapped in spinach and steamed butter sauce with pilaf rice. For dessert I picked the Creme Brulee custard with burnt caramel topping which was delicious with a crispy shell to crack open to reveal warm creamy custard. Finished off with strong Yallingup Coffee Company flat white made to perfection.

Lunch @ Beautiful Balingup

June5

Aubrey and I had lunch at the 100% Gluten Free Balingup Bronze Cafe to celebrate our three year anniversary of meeting at Dome in Fremantle.   This is my favourite cafe as I can eat anything on the menu and be assured it is gluten free. It is also always delicious and flavoursome. I had the arborio rice balls stuffed with spinach and fetta and covered in a lovely crispy coating. Aubrey had the bacon and mushroom cheesy slice. Both were served with generous and tasty side salads with a tangy balsamic dressing. We took a stroll around picturesque Balingup and bought some herbal sprinkle and stock cube substitute at Tinderbox. Then back to the cafe for coffee and baked cheesecake which was delicious with a nutty base and tangy cheesecake filling.   The coffee at Balingup Bronze Cafe is not for the faint hearted and very Melbourne style!   There is also a gluten free store and bought some lemon polenta porridge which cannot wait to taste.   Check out my link to the Balingup Bronze Cafe – you won’t be disappointed.
